In most cases we single out the obvious physical differences; because making a value judgment based on them takes the least amount of effort or intelligence. It is a social indolence. It leads to pigeonholing others into categories; Likable, Unlikable, Worthy, Not-Worth-My-Time, etc., without getting to know the individual first.
